FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Is mom’s memory not quite as sharp as it used to be? Not that she doesn’t remember little things, or maybe forgets birthdays or where she put her keys, but do you find yourself going over the same things multiple times in the same short conversation?
  • Does the refrigerator seem strangely empty when it was always kept fully stocked? Or do you find it filled with many of the same things?
  • Is mom losing weight and doesn’t really know why?
  • Does dad’s car have new scratches or dents on it when he used to keep his car immaculate?
There is a wide range of support available depending on how much help mom or dad needs. This can be something as simple as having a Personal Care Assistant come in to the home a few days a week for a few hours and range all the way up to skilled nursing care (a medical facility commonly called a nursing home).
There are a number of ways to pay for assisted living however Medicare is not one of them. Medicare does not cover any non-medical care (and that includes most nursing home stays). The most common way to pay for assisted living is to pay privately. However, many people have purchased long term care insurance policies that cover assisted living services. In addition, many veterans and their spouses are eligible for benefits called the Veterans Aid & Attendance benefit that cover assisted living costs as well. Rosemary House works with a number of long term care insurance companies and our local Veterans Services Officer to assist with qualification for these benefits and can assist you through that process.

Assisted Living communities are supportive living communities that are staffed 24 hours a day with trained staff. They are licensed and regulated by the Texas Department of Health and Human Services. Assisted living communities generally provide private rooms, meals, activities and other services.

Rosemary House is the premier assisted living community in Southeast, Texas and Austin/San Antonio area. We are family owned and operated and have been serving the community for several years.

Not only does Rosemary House have a full time nurse and well trained staff available 24 hours a day to look after your every need, semiprivate and private room options available, three home cooked meals every day, weekly housekeeping and laundry services, transportation and apartment maintenance, but you have a built in community of friends that quickly becomes family.

Assisted living communities provide many of the same services that have historically been provided in nursing homes. However, living in an assisted living community is more like living in your home instead of living in a clinical nursing home where more medical care can be provided.

In an assisted living community, you have your own private room. Many nursing homes still utilize what is called a semi-private model—that means, you and another person share a bedroom and are generally separated only by a privacy curtain.
